Day 4: Real Worshippers Never Sit Down
Real Worshippers Never Sit Down
“A time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth.” - John 4:23
During a conversation with a Samaritan woman at a well, Jesus makes a bold declaration on what true worship is. This woman is there for water- He speaks of living water that provides eternal life. She recognizes he is a prophet of the Jews and tries to argue where worship should be. Jesus states that it’s not about where but about who is worshipped.
This Scripture shows that God indeed wants our worship- this is GREAT NEWS! And because Jesus is the object of our worship, he is qualified to give the terms. The call is to worship God “in the spirit and in truth.” The Spirit allows us to have faith in God (Ephesians 2:8-9), and Scripture gives us the truth about God (Hebrews 2:12-12) so that we can know the God we worship. “Spirit and truth worship, “then, is genuine worship. We operate in true worship when we grow in our knowledge of who God is and are reminded of whose we are.
Worshipping brings us back to the heart of God. We worship Him not based on what he’s done for us, but primarily because God is great, majestic, glorious, and worthy of our worship. This becomes powerful when we worship with others. Worshiping regularly with others unifies us and orients our eyes towards Jesus. Together we make this precious gospel visible to the world and encourage each other that Jesus is real!
Our prayer target today is to realize that worship is always in session. Where will you choose to worship this week, and whom will you worship? God, we need your Spirit to awaken us afresh to the truth about you and to become the source of our worship. Help us to be genuine as we seek you.
